I read a lot about pairing little dot MK III and Bottlehead Crack amplifiers with the hd650s, but I hardly ever hear anyone suggest any of the DarkVoice amplifiers. I stumble across threads regarding the 336SE model but thats about it, and they're just arguing about the superiority of tubes over solid state in these threads. Can anyone enlighten me on DarkVoice amplifiers in general, and what headphones they pair well with, and if any in particular pair well with the hd650 like the aforementioned amplifiers? There's a reason why you don't hear much about the DarkVoice 336SE, and that's because they are, well, to put it gently, crap.

They have very poor QC, folks have reported receiving 336SEs with squished caps, loosely soldered components, and faulty point to point wiring. Also, they have a tendency to smoke.

There are a few smoking 336SE videos out there on youtube, I guess folks should have lit up the 'no smoking' sign and fastened their seatbelts before firing up those amps, I guess. They also tend to have an irritating hum, mainly due to a combination of bad design and the fact that they have bottom-of-the-barrel components. You may want to look up 'dark voice fitz mod' and see if you are up for it in case you buy a 336SE and have the hum issue, because it does involve some soldering.
